Summary:
The Counselor is responsible to assist and support each client through the entire treatment experience from admission through discharge. The Counselor monitor's the course of treatment for each client in a pro-active manner to ensure that no problem or trouble may compromise the client's or treatment staff's effort. The Counselor is responsible to contribute insightful, practical, and meaningful information to the treatment planning process. The Counselor introduces each new client to his/her fellow clients and the treatment staff, orientates each client to the Discovery Treatment Program, makes the client familiar with the rules, expectations, intent, and routine of the daily treatment schedule. Tours each new client around the building and grounds to familiarize the client with the facility. The Counselor determines weather the new client has any special needs and assists the client I fulfilling those needs. Such needs are communicated to the treatment team appropriately. As the counseling team is available to the clients on a twenty-four hour basis, careful client monitoring and communication with the treatment team is essential. It is paramount that the Counselor understands that while the entire treatment staff works as a team, the Counselor makes the daily walk through the treatment day with the clients. This position requires a strong knowledge of appropriate personal and clinical boundary's, a consistently positive attitude, and the ability to deal with difficult, uncertain, and stressful situations in a positive manner while keeping clients focused on their treatment tasks and goals.
Responsibilities:
1. All employees are expected to remain alert, available, and awake and in a physical position that assures the ability to respond to emergent resident needs. No employee is permitted to sleep during scheduled work hours. Any employee who is either asleep or appears asleep is subject to termination.
2. Is responsible to orientate each client to the treatment program, its requirements, intent, and routine
3. Introduces each new client to fellow clients and the treatment team.
4. Greets welcomes new client within 15 minutes of admission, introduces client to his/her primary treatment providers.
5. Ensures that counseling assessment is complete and on the record within 24 hours.
6. Educates each client to the level and point system as well as the disciplinary process.
7. Monitor's all client progress through the treatment experience, communicates with the treatment team as indicated.
8. Contributes to the Comprehensive Treatment Plan through participation in the treatment planning meeting and process.
9. Required to attend and participate in all treatment planning meetings and Treatment Review and Client Goals Setting group.
10. Sees each client I individual session twice weekly for a minimum of 30 minutes.
11. Directs clients in a clear, concise, and informative manner.
12. Takes primary responsibility for alerting the treatment team and planning intervention of client termination of treatment before planned discharge.
13. Enters appropriate documentation in the client record after each and every treatment intervention.
14. Contacts client family members at the direction of the treatment team to set appointments or educate to the clients current status and/or progress.
15. Counselors are available during non-working hours for consultation.
16. Completes other duties as assigned by the treatment team.
17. Familiarizes self with the Philosophy, Mission, goals, and objectives of the Center For Discovery Adolescent Program.
18. Complies with all Discovery policies and procedures.
19. Contributes to the well being of all clients by serving as a positive role model, demonstrating professional and caring manner toward co-workers, clients, and guests.
20. Greets everyone courteously.
21. Answers telephone promptly and politely, and responds in writing to inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
22. Attends all designated meetings.
23. Establishes realistic goals within the position.
24. Makes timely request for leave and adheres to rest break schedule.
25. Maintains confidential nature of all client and program related activites.
26. Performs any other assigned and/or requested duties.
27. May be required to travel to other facilities to attend trainings from time to time.
Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred or related field. Must be willing to attend all training, education, and staff enrichment activities.
Experience:
Must have at least two years experience in mental health, counseling, or educational fields.
Knowledge:
Must understand the therapeutic process, understand confidentiality laws, and strong knowledge of professional ethics. Must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities, and be able to work with and communicate with persons from all educational and cultural backgrounds. Must demonstrate tact, initiative, resourcefulness, professional manner, enthusiasm, and a non-judgmental attitude.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
